KPK prosecutors have submitted the case files in an alleged extortion scheme involving residence permits for foreign nationals, in which former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim is implicated. Silmy’s first hearing is scheduled for Thursday, 29 October.

“The indictment hearing is scheduled for Thursday, 29 October 2026, at 10.00 WIB,” Sunoto, a spokesperson for the Central Jakarta District Court, said in a statement on Wednesday, 21 October 2026.

In addition to Silmy, KPK prosecutors have submitted case files against seven other suspects, who are due to stand trial on the same day. They are:

  1. Saffar Muhammad Godam, acting Director General of Immigration from 2024 to 2025

  2. Jaya Saputra, Director of Immigration Residence Permits at the Directorate General of Immigration

  3. Tessar Bayu Setyaji, head of the Immigration Status Conversion Subdirectorate at the Directorate General of Immigration

  4. Bagus Bramantyo, deputy head of a unit at the Directorate of Immigration Residence Permits

  5. Ronald Arman Abdullah, head of the Central Jakarta Immigration Office from 2024 to 2025 and head of the West Jakarta Class I Special Non-TPI Immigration Office from 2025 to 2026

  6. Juniadi Sri Priambudi, head of the ITAS Status Conversion Team

  7. Gusti Benardiansyah, staff member of the Immigration Residence Permits Subdirectorate

The alleged extortion involving limited-stay permits for foreign nationals is said to have begun in 2023, when Silmy was Director General of Immigration. The KPK suspects that a total of Rp145.5 billion was collected in the case and that Silmy received a purported share of Rp100 million a week.
