Silmy Karim Visits KPK Late at Night, Here is What He Said

The Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, finally visited the Corruption Eradancy Commission (KPK) on Wednesday (3/6/2026) night. Silmy arrived after being sought by the KPK in connection with a sting operation (OTT) in West Jakarta.

Silmy surrendered himself to the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in South Jakarta at approximately 10:30 PM WIB, wearing a grey batik shirt. He offered little comment prior to his interrogation by the KPK. When asked by officers about his identity card (KTP), Silmy replied, “I did not bring it.”

His arrival led to a brief confrontation with journalists who had been waiting for a long time, as Silmy’s security detail forcibly pushed media personnel aside to clear a path for him to enter the KPK building.

Silmy also failed to provide a clear explanation as to why he only surrendered to the KPK so late at night, claiming he had only arrived after completing his scheduled agenda. “It is just like this, completing my agenda (so I have only just arrived now),” Silmy stated.

Silmy is allegedly linked to illegal practices involving the processing of stay permit documents, including Limited Stay Permits (KITAS) and Permanent Stay Permits (KITAP), which led to the KPK’s sting operation. Previously, the KPK revealed that over a dozen individuals were apprehended during the sting operation on Tuesday (2/6/2026), during which various pieces of evidence were seized.

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the operation initially took place in West Jakarta before expanding to Bali and West Java. “In its progress, dozens of people have been detained in this series of sting operations, and the evidence seized includes vehicles, cars, motorcycles, as well as cash in the form of USD and SGD, and precious metals such as gold,” said Budi on Wednesday (3/6/2026). Budi confirmed that the KPK team is still active in the field and will continue to provide updates on the developments.
