Silmy Karim Undergoing Intensive Interrogation at KPK After Surrendering

The interrogation process is still ongoing as of Thursday morning, according to KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo. Silmy Karim surrendered to the KPK on Wednesday night. During a sting operation (OTT) at the West Jakarta Immigration Office, the KPK detained 17 individuals, comprising both state officials and private sector representatives.

The KPK has a 24-hour window to determine the legal status of those detained during the operation. An announcement regarding the status of Silmy and the dozen others is expected later today. “It will be announced in due course,” added Budi.

It is understood that the KPK had been searching for Silmy’s whereabouts following the sting operation at the West Jakarta Immigration Office. The former Director General of Immigration was traced to Jakarta, prompting the KPK to request his surrender. “We are still investigating the information; the team certainly requires the presence and testimony of the individual concerned. Therefore, we also urge him to be cooperative and surrender to the KPK to assist in the case handling process,” Buju stated on Wednesday.

Silmy arrived at the KPK’s Merah Putih building on Wednesday night wearing a grey shirt. While he approached the KPK desk to surrender, he did not carry any identification. Silmy remained largely silent when questioned about being sought by investigators, stating only that he had been completing his usual scheduled activities before arriving at the KPK building. After providing his personal details, Silmy Karim was escorted to the upper floors of the KPK building to undergo interrogation related to the West Jakarta Immigration sting operation.
