Silmy Karim Named as Corruption Suspect, Presidential Palace Assures Public Services Will Not Be Disrupted

Jakarta, VIVA – The Presidential Palace, through the State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, has assured that public services at the Ministry of Immigration will not be disrupted despite the naming of Deputy Minister Silmy Karim as a suspect in a corruption case related to the processing of foreign nationals’ residence permits.

He stated that he has coordinated with the Minister of Immigration, Agus Andrianto, to ensure that public services are not disrupted.

“We have also communicated with the Minister of Immigration to ensure that this incident does not disrupt services to the public,” Prasetyo told reporters on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

Prasetyo also expressed his concern over the legal case involving Silmy Karim. He added that the government had hoped that no members of the cabinet would be involved in corruption.

Furthermore, the naming of Silmy Karim as a suspect and his detention occurred only a day after the naming of Dadan Hindayana and others as suspects and their detention at the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung).

“Indeed, in the past two days, we have been very concerned, and this is an incident that we clearly did not expect to happen repeatedly,” he said.

The government will also soon decide on the replacement for Deputy Minister Silmy Karim.

“Regarding the positions held by those who are undergoing legal proceedings, this will be followed up soon in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he said.

It is known that Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, has officially become a detainee of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after emerging from the KPK’s Merah Putih Building wearing an orange KPK detainee uniform.

After that, former Acting Director General of Immigration, Saffar Muhammad Godam, Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Jaya Saputra, Head of the Class I Special Non-TPI Immigration Office for West Jakarta, Ronald Arman Abdullah, and four other people also wore orange KPK uniforms.

They are suspected of being involved in a corruption case within the Directorate General of Immigration.
