Silmy Karim and Others Detained by KPK; Yusril Concerned Corruption Persists in Immigration
The Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, has stated that the government will not intervene in the legal case currently being handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding alleged irregularities in immigration services. The case involves eight individuals, including the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs, Silmy Karim.
Yusril emphasised that amidst President Prabowo Subianto’s significant commitment to creating a clean and corruption-free bureaucracy, this incident serves as both a setback and a serious challenge. “The government is very concerned about this occurrence. At a time when we are actively promoting a clean administration, corruption practices are still being found within the immigration sector,” Yusril said in a statement on Thursday (4/6/2026).
Based on preliminary investigations, Yusril clarified that the alleged legal case involving Silmy Karim occurred between 2023 and 2024, during which time Silmy was serving as the Director General of Immigration. Therefore, the matter is not related to his current capacity or position as Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs.
Yusril has instructed Silmy Karim and all immigration officials summoned by the KPK to remain cooperative and comply with all stages of the investigation conducted by the investigative team. Yusril expressed full confidence in the KPK as an independent institution to thoroughly investigate the matter to ensure justice is served.
“We ensure that the government will not obstruct the legal process. We are opening the doors to coordination as wide as possible and are ready to assist KPK investigators if additional data or information is required. We shall await the progress of this process until the case files are deemed sufficient with evidence to be tested in court,” Yusril added.
