Silmy Karim and Associates Charged with Extortion and Gratification in Foreign National Visa Case
The Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, has been named a suspect in a case involving extortion and gratification related to the processing of visas for foreign nationals residing in Indonesia.
The KPK spokesperson, Budi Prasetyo, stated that the decision to name Silmy as a suspect was made after investigators questioned him for approximately 10 hours.
He mentioned that based on the case file and evidence found, Silmy was found to have received funds from extortion and gratification in the case.
“Based on sufficient evidence, the KPK has named eight individuals as suspects out of a total of 18 people who were arrested during the sting operation,” he said to reporters on Thursday (June 4).
“Among the eight suspects is SK, who was the Director General of Immigration for the period 2023-2024,” he added.
Budi explained that in this case, Silmy and his associates are charged with Article 12e related to alleged corruption in the form of extortion in the processing of immigration documents, as well as Article 12B related to the acceptance of other benefits or gratification.
“The individuals who have been named as suspects, their alleged illegal acts fulfill the elements of these articles,” he explained.
In addition to Silmy, the KPK has also detained the former Acting Director General of Immigration for the period 2024-2025, Saffar Muhammad Godam (SMG), as well as the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for West Java, Jaya Saputra (JS).
Then there is the Head of the Sub-Directorate for the Transfer of Residence Permits at the Directorate General of Immigration, Tessar Bayu Setyaji (TBS); the Head of the Sub-Directorate at the Directorate of Residence Permits, Bagus Bramantyo (BGS); the Head of the Class I Special Non-TPI Immigration Office in West Jakarta for 2025-2026, Ronald Arman Abdullah (RAA).
Furthermore, the Head of the ITAS Transfer Team, Juniadi Sri Priambudi (JSP); and Staff of the Sub-Directorate of Residence Permits, Gusti Benardiansyah (GST).
Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation in West Jakarta on June 2-3, 2026. A total of dozens of people were arrested in the operation. The KPK seized at least four cars, nine motorcycles, and seven bicycles during the operation.
In addition, there were also foreign currencies, namely Singapore dollars and US dollars, as well as gold, which were confiscated by the KPK from the operation.
The KPK revealed that the alleged criminal act committed by Silmy Karim occurred while he was serving as Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights for the period 2023-2024.
Silmy was appointed as Director General of Immigration on January 4, 2023, and his term ended on October 21, 2024, coinciding with his appointment as Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections.
