SINGAPORE (DPA): Singapore's SilkAir has taken delivery of its
first Airbus Industrie plane, and is set to become an all-Airbus
operator, the aircraft maker said Monday.
"Our (Boeing) 737s and Fokker 70s will be phased out slowly
when the Airbuses are delivered," SilkAir spokeswoman Karen Loh
confirmed.
SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, has placed
firm orders with Airbus for eight airbus jets, consisting of four
A320s and four A319s. The airline also hold options for another
10 Airbus planes.
Airbus Industrie is a multi-national European consortium owned
by Aerospatiale of France (37.9 percent), Daimler-Benz Aerospace
Airbus (37.9 percent), British Aerospace (20 percent) and CASA of
Spain (4.2 percent).
