Siliwangi upsets Hadtex 64-59
JAKARTA (JP): American Dan Gray romped with 24 points and Ronald Median added 23 to end Siliwangi's losing streak with a come-from-behind 64-59 victory over fellow West Javanese Hadtex in the final day of the first leg of semi-professional basketball league yesterday.
Hadtex cagers should have avoided walking away from the league's opening leg with four straight losses as they took a narrow 34-33 lead in the first half.
The Siliwangi side apparently took advantage of the extended break caused by an electricity problem at the 4,000-seat Senayan basketball hall, intensifying the pressures throughout the final half.
Hadtex managed to level the tie twice at 49-49 and 59-59, thanks to Chinese Chai Chang Yi's brilliant shots. Its spirited struggle, however, became a cropper due to numerous careless shooting attempts.
With only a minute left, Ronald poured in two free throws to put Siliwangi two points ahead at 61-59. Hadtex squandered two counter attacks, leaving Ronald to nail his three-pointer in the final second. (amd)
