Sikka Regency Government ensures no aid backlog at emergency posts
The Sikka Regency Government in East Nusa Tenggara has assured that no aid is piling up at the command post during the distribution of logistics for communities affected by the earthquake in the region.
“We ensure there is no accumulation of logistics at the Sikka Regency BPBD Command Post. Every incoming aid is immediately processed for distribution to areas in need,” said Margaretha Movaldes da Maga Bapa, Head of the Tectonic Earthquake Emergency Response Command Post for Sikka Regency, in a statement from Kupang on Tuesday.
She said that as of Tuesday (18/8), logistics distribution was still ongoing from the Tectonic Earthquake Emergency Response Command Post located on Jalan Mawar, Perumnas Maumere.
“Logistics distribution has been carried out since Sunday (16/8). For the Palue Sub-district area, aid was delivered directly by the Sikka Regent together with members of the Sikka Regency Forkopimda and the PLN East Flores Team,” she explained.
She said aid distribution to Palue Island continues to ensure the basic needs of earthquake-affected communities are met.
In addition to Palue, aid distribution is also being carried out simultaneously in 20 other sub-districts across Sikka Regency. The distribution is led directly by heads of regional apparatus organisations (OPD) according to their respective areas and duties.
“Simultaneous distribution in the other 20 sub-districts is led directly by OPD heads. The process lasted until around 03.00 WITA this morning and is still ongoing,” she said.
In addition to food supplies, the government is also distributing various supporting equipment for communities at evacuation sites, such as in Palue Sub-district. The aid includes five refugee tents measuring 6 x 12 metres, 146 orange family tents measuring 4 x 4 metres and tarpaulin covers, 200 folding mattresses, 400 mats, 400 blankets, 300 basic food packages, 100 kids ware packages, 10 generator sets, 100 hygiene kits, five water tanks, three light power batteries, and two light power chargers.
Beyond addressing the earthquake’s impact, the Sikka Regency Government is also continuing to attend to the needs of communities in other disaster-affected areas.
As of Monday (17/8), the government has distributed drinking water aid to Kringa Village, following the contamination of community water sources due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi.
The drinking water distribution is part of the government’s efforts to ensure communities continue to have access to clean and safe water for their daily needs.
Margaretha said the Sikka Regency Government continues to coordinate between the Emergency Response Command Post, BPBD, OPDs, the TNI-Polri, sub-district and village governments, and other relevant parties so that aid distribution can proceed quickly, accurately and evenly.
