Signs Your WhatsApp Has Been Hacked Remotely, Beware of Empty Bank Accounts!
WhatsApp interception has now become a serious threat that not only robs privacy but also has the potential to drain victims’ bank account balances. When an account is tapped, hackers can take control of contact lists, read private conversations, and even seize one-time password (OTP) codes for banking and e-commerce that arrive via WhatsApp.
Infiltration methods are increasingly varied, ranging from malware infiltration, misuse of the WhatsApp Web feature, to third-party applications.
Signs Your WhatsApp Account Is Being Tapped
Receiving Mysterious OTP Codes: Receiving an SMS containing a 6-digit OTP code without any login request is a strong indication of a hacking attempt.
Automatic Logout: Your WhatsApp account suddenly logging out on its own indicates that your number has been activated on another device.
Messages Read by Themselves: Incoming chats that suddenly turn into blue ticks even though you have not had time to open them.
Foreign Message and Call Activity: Outgoing messages, call history, or status updates that you never created.
Handling and Prevention Steps
- Enable Two-Step Verification The most crucial protection step to lock your account with an additional secret PIN:
Go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification.
Click Enable, create a 6-digit secret PIN, and enter a recovery email address.
- Disconnect Suspicious WhatsApp Web Connections Periodically check devices connected to your account:
Select the three-dot icon > Linked Devices.
Check the device list. If anything looks suspicious, immediately select Log Out.
Take Back Control by Reinstalling the App Delete (uninstall) and re-download the WhatsApp application. Log in again using your phone number, then enter the official OTP code via SMS to kick out the hacker’s access.
Lock the App with Biometrics Use the device’s built-in security features:
Go to Settings > Privacy > App Lock.
Enable fingerprint scanner or Face ID.
- Report Account Blocking to WhatsApp If the account has been fully taken over by hackers, send an emergency email to [email protected]:
Subject/Message Body: “Lost/stolen: Please deactivate my account”
Include the phone number in international format (example: +62812xxxxxxx).
The account will be temporarily deactivated and can be recovered within a 30-day deadline before permanent deletion.
