Signs China is Softening, Opening Doors Wide for America
The technological relationship between the United States and China appears to be showing signs of ‘warming’. The Chinese government is reportedly beginning to open opportunities for several of its domestic corporations to purchase graphics processing units (GPUs) manufactured by the US tech giant, Nvidia.
According to recent reports, the Chinese government has signalled a strong intention to allow massive companies such as ByteDance and Alibaba to procure Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 chips, which are specifically designed for high-end professional workstations.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has reportedly requested that numerous technology firms report their procurement plans for these chips. According to a report by The Information, citing an anonymous internal source, the ministry has also whispered the government’s intention to promptly approve the purchase of the RTX PRO 5500.
Furthermore, several industry executives project that these specific chips have the potential to bypass the export restriction sanctions currently imposed by the United States government. However, Reuters news agency has not yet been able to independently verify these reports.
Nvidia’s Cold Stance: Caught Between Two Nations’ Regulations
Responding to the news, Nvidia has provided its own observations. A company spokesperson emphasised that the US-based corporation currently remains caught in a difficult position due to strict regulations from both sides.
“US companies continue to be constrained by a combination of outdated US export controls—which include gaming products released nearly half a decade ago—and China’s own restrictions on imports from the US,” stated an Nvidia spokesperson, as quoted by Reuters on Monday (28/09/2026).
