Significance of R&D
Significance of R&D
From Media Indonesia
No country can survive without advanced research and development (R&D) institutions. Prof. Samaun Samadikun from the Bandung Institute of Technology, a former chairman with the National Institute of Sciences, emphasized this in a discussion with the National Development Planning Board recently.
The statement is well-founded because as an agency playing a role in knowledge and technology production, R&D is relied upon to bring about acceleration of development efforts.
As a center of excellence, R&D departments are expected to contribute maximally to the scientific settlement of national issues like ethnic conflicts, refugee problems, epidemics, fuel scarcity and natural disasters in order to promote national competitiveness.
