Signal Cable Theft Leads to Manual Operation of KRL Trains on Daru-Parung Route

Signal cable theft occurred on the Green Line route from Daru to Parung Panjang on Friday (8/5). As a result, the automatic railway signalling system on that line experienced disruptions. VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda Karina, explained that the vandalism impacted delays to six commuter line (KRL) trips on the Rangkasbitung-Tanah Abang route since 09:00 WIB. Currently, train operations are being managed manually while staff carry out repairs on the automatic signalling equipment. “For the Commuter Line Rangkasbitung trips on that line, they are currently being served with a manual system,” Karina stated on Friday (8/5). According to Karina, the theft of railway signalling equipment poses a significant danger to train travel safety and the public. Therefore, KAI condemns the vandalism. “Perpetrators can face a maximum prison sentence of three years in accordance with Article 197 of Law No. 23 of 2007. This article states that anyone who removes, damages, or commits acts that cause the railway infrastructure to malfunction shall be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of three years,” she emphasised. In response to this incident, Karina urged all parties to safeguard public transportation facilities such as trains. “KAI Commuter apologises for the delays to the Commuter Line Rangkasbitung trips this morning due to vandalism by irresponsible parties,” she added.
