Sigli–Banda Aceh Toll Section 1 Guaranteed Ready for Functional Operation to Support 2026 Homecoming Rush
PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has opened the Sigli–Banda Aceh Toll Road Section 1 for functional operation to support the smooth flow of Lebaran homecoming and return traffic. The Sigli–Banda Aceh toll route has a total length of 74.2 km and is one of the National Strategic Projects in Aceh Province.
Currently, the route operates on Sections 2 through 6, comprising Section 2 (Seulimeum Jantho) spanning 6 km, Section 3 (Jantho–Indrapuri) spanning 16 km, Section 4 (Indrapuri–Blang Bintang) spanning 14 km, Section 5 (Blang Bintang–Kuto Baro) spanning 8 km, and Section 6 (Kuto Baro–Baitussalam) spanning 5 km, with a combined length of 49 km already serving the public. The newly opened section is Section 1, running from IC Padang Tiji (STA 01+725) to STA 25+680, spanning 23.955 km. This functional route is open for two lanes of traffic (lanes A and B) with bidirectional flow, namely Padang Tiji–Seulimeum and vice versa.
Section 1 has been operating functionally since 7 December 2025 to facilitate aid access to Aceh Province whilst supporting traffic flow during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period. To date, the functional route continues to be utilised to support public mobility and logistics distribution, including disaster relief efforts in Aceh Tamiang, making travel and transportation more rapid and efficient.
Operationally, Sections 2 through 6 (Seulimeum–Baitussalam) continue to operate on a toll-charging basis. Meanwhile, the functional Section 1 route (Padang Tiji–Seulimeum) has been integrated via the Seulimeum Interchange. Road users continuing their journey to or from Padang Tiji must complete a transaction at the Padang Tiji toll gate.
As part of the transition toward full operational status, Section 1 has undergone pre-functional fitness testing (Pra-ULF) to ensure all technical and safety aspects meet established standards, enabling the completion process to be realised promptly.
To ensure safety and comfort during the functional operation period, Hutama Karya has prepared traffic signs, road markings, delineators, and other safety equipment. Various operational vehicles have also been deployed, including ambulances, 10-tonne and 25-tonne recovery vehicles, towing cranes, rescue vehicles, patrol vehicles, and Highway Patrol (PJR) vehicles, together with personnel stationed in the field.
Acting Executive Vice President (EVP) and Company Secretary of Hutama Karya, Hamdani, stated that the functional opening of the Sigli–Banda Aceh Toll Section 1 represents the company’s commitment to supporting smooth public mobility during the Lebaran period, whilst ensuring logistics distribution and disaster aid to Aceh Tamiang flow more rapidly and efficiently.
With the integration of all operating sections and this functional route, travel time from Sigli to Banda Aceh can be reduced from approximately one hour via national roads to approximately 30 minutes via the toll road. Hamdani urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations, observe speed limits, and follow officer instructions for collective safety. The opening of this functional route is expected to ease traffic congestion on national roads and provide tangible benefits to Aceh’s residents in enhancing connectivity and supporting regional economic growth.
