Sigi Regency Proposes Construction of 249 Temporary Shelters for Earthquake Victims

The Sigi Regency administration in Central Sulawesi has proposed the construction of 249 temporary shelters for communities affected by the recent earthquake in the Nokilalaki and Palolo areas. Deputy Regent Samuel Yansen Pongi stated that the first phase of construction, comprising 50 units, is currently underway. “Fifty units are in the process of being built, and for the second phase, we have proposed 199 units for construction. Essentially, in this second phase decree, we are proposing all houses categorised as heavily damaged,” said Deputy Regent Pongi when met by journalists in Sigi on Saturday. He added that the local government is currently working on issuing a third phase decree, which involves assessments of houses with light and moderate damage. The proposal will be submitted once all documents have been reviewed and verified by the local Housing and Settlement Agency. “This third phase decree will be submitted to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency as soon as the public review and inspectorate audit are completed to ensure the data is accurate and valid,” he said. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency is expected to promptly follow up on the second phase of the housing assistance request for affected communities in Sigi Regency, particularly in the Nokilalaki and Palolo areas. A total of 249 houses were declared heavily damaged by the earthquake in Sigi Regency, consisting of 120 units in Palolo District and 129 units in Nokilalaki.
