Sigi Regency Proposes Construction of 249 Temporary Shelters for Earthquake Victims

Fifty units are currently under construction, and for the second phase we have proposed 199 units to be built as temporary housing.

Sigi, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Sigi Regency Government in Central Sulawesi has submitted a proposal for the construction of 249 temporary housing units (huntara) for communities affected by the earthquake in the Nokilalaki and Palolo districts.

Sigi Deputy Regent Samuel Yansen Pongi said the first phase of temporary housing construction, comprising 50 units, is currently underway.

“Fifty units are under construction, and for the second phase we have proposed 199 units to be built as temporary housing. Essentially, this second-phase decree covers homes categorised as severely damaged,” Deputy Regent Samuel told reporters in Sigi on Saturday.

“The regional government is currently working on the third-phase decree, namely the assessment of lightly and moderately damaged homes, so the submission will follow once all documents have been reviewed and examined by the local Housing and Settlement Areas Office,” he said.

“This third-phase decree will soon be submitted to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), once public testing is complete and it has been reviewed by the inspectorate to ensure the data is accurate and valid,” he added.

Meanwhile, the BNPB will promptly follow up on the request for second-phase housing assistance for affected communities in Sigi Regency, particularly in the Nokilalaki and Palolo districts.

It is understood that a total of 249 homes in Sigi Regency were declared severely damaged as a result of the earthquake in the area, comprising 120 units in Palolo Subdistrict and 129 units in Nokilalaki.
