Sigi Regency Government Finalises Phase II Temporary Shelter Data for Earthquake Victims

The Sigi Regency Government in Central Sulawesi has finalised phase II data collection for temporary housing (huntara) for communities affected by the earthquake in the Nokilalaki and Palolo districts.

Sigi Deputy Regent and Emergency Response Task Force Commander Samuel Yansen Pongi said the entire process of data collection, verification and determination was carried out openly and transparently.

“The results will later be formalised in a decree (SK) by the Sigi Regent and then submitted to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB),” Samuel told reporters in Dolo on Saturday.

He explained that the assessment team, comprising the local Housing and Settlement Areas Office, conducted the data collection and possessed the capacity and qualifications in the field based on facts on the ground.

“We convey to the public that if anyone believes their house is severely damaged but the assessment team’s verification found it to be moderately damaged, we urge them not to force the issue because there are legal consequences behind these damage categories,” Samuel said.

He noted that the second phase prioritised only severely damaged houses and places of worship in Nokilalaki and Palolo.

“In principle, all stages have been completed. A public test was conducted, followed by an assessment, then another public test, and then a review. During the review, the Inspectorate found nine names that did not meet the requirements,” he said.

Samuel said the funding for the construction of temporary places of worship would be accommodated by the BNPB.

According to the final phase II data, the total number of houses declared severely damaged reached 249 units, comprising 120 units in Palolo District and 129 units in Nokilalaki.

Severely damaged places of worship numbered 20 units, comprising 10 churches in Palolo District, as well as eight churches, one mosque and one musala in Nokilalaki District.
