Sigi Regency Forms Assessment Team to Handle Earthquake-Damaged Homes

The Sigi Regency government in Central Sulawesi is forming an assessment team from the local Housing and Settlement Agency (Disperkim) to handle homes with light and moderate damage caused by a recent earthquake. “God willing, the team formation will begin tomorrow, followed by socialisation and trials,” said Ahmad Yani, Head of the Disaster Management Division at the Sigi Regency BPBD, in Dolo on Sunday. He stated that the assessment team is tasked with cataloguing homes with light and moderate damage, with the process expected to be completed by Wednesday (15/7). “Practically, by Tuesday or Wednesday, they will already be in action in the field,” he said. Ahmad noted that during the data collection, the assessment team will be assisted by 43 students from the Faculty of Engineering at Tadulako University, Palu. “There is support from 43 UNTAD Engineering students to help catalogue damaged homes in Nokilalaki and Palolo,” he said. He added that during the first and second phases, the local government focused on heavily damaged homes, which is linked to the construction of temporary shelters (huntara) for affected communities in Nokilalaki and Palolo. Previously, the Sigi Regency government finalised the second phase of data collection for temporary shelter needs for communities affected by the earthquake in the Nokilalaki and Palolo sub-districts. Deputy Regent of Sigi and Emergency Task Force Commander Samuel Yansen Pongi stated that the entire process of data collection, verification, and determination was conducted openly and transparently. “The results will be formalised in a decree by the Regent of Sigi and subsequently sent to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB),” said Samuel in Dolo on Saturday (11/7).
