Sigi Regency: Construction of People's School to Commence Mid-October
The Sigi Regency Government in Central Sulawesi has confirmed that the construction process for the People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat) building in the region will commence on 16 October 2026.
Speaking in Bora on Thursday, the Regent of Sigi, Moh Rizal Intjenae, stated that the government is now ready to initiate the tender process for the construction project, which is designed to accommodate up to 1,200 students from low-income families.
“God willing, the tender for construction will begin on 16 October. The priority is to move forward because I want the poor members of our community to be able to attend school immediately, ensuring there are no more excuses for children in Sigi to remain out of school,” said Rizal.
He explained that the People’s School programme represents the government’s commitment to ensuring all children, particularly in Sigi Regency, have access to proper education.
According to the Regent, the initial plan for the building was a four-storey structure with a capacity for 2,500 students. However, the initial construction phase has been adjusted to two storeys, as the building height permit recommendation from the local airport authority is still pending.
“So, even though it does not align with the original plan, a two-storey building with a capacity of 1,200 students will be more than sufficient,” he added.
Rizal noted that the local government is continuously coordinating with relevant parties, such as the Ministry of Social Affairs, to ensure the tender process proceeds smoothly and the physical construction of the school can be realised promptly.
The construction site for the People’s School in Sigi Regency is located in Pombewe Village, Sigi Biromaru District, spanning a total area of 8 hectares.
