Sigi BPBD records three fatalities from earthquake

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, has recorded that the death toll from the earthquake in the area has reached three people. “Two additional victims came from Berdikari Village, Palolo District, and Kamarora A Village, Nokilalaki District. The earlier fatality was from Ampera Village,” said Ahmad Yani, Head of the Disaster Division at Sigi BPBD, when met by journalists in Dolo on Thursday. He explained that the victim from Berdikari Village had a pre-existing medical condition when the earthquake struck. “During the earthquake, the victim fell and suffered a heart attack, and was subsequently rushed to the Bala Keselamatan Hospital in Palu City. Because the data collection process had not been included in the initial report, this victim had not yet been recorded,” he said. “This victim also had a history of a tumour, so the impact he experienced is suspected to have worsened his health condition,” he added. According to him, both victims had received medical treatment and were taken to hospital, either at Torabelo Regional General Hospital or Bala Keselamatan Hospital in Palu. “Currently, the data collection process is still ongoing,” he said. Based on data as of 18 June, the number of affected residents reached 2,109 households, comprising 6,412 individuals in Sigi Regency. The total number of damaged public facilities stands at 84 units, including schools, places of worship, government offices, community health centres, and clean water networks. “Houses in Sigi Regency that suffered damage also rose to 1,652 units, consisting of 1,472 units with light damage, 111 units with moderate damage, and 69 units with heavy damage, spread across 38 villages,” he stated. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 shook the Palu area of Central Sulawesi on Tuesday (16/6) at 10.27 WIB.
