Sigi BPBD records three fatalities from earthquake

The Sigi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPKS) of Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, has recorded that the number of fatalities resulting from the earthquake in the area has reached three people.

“Two additional victims are from Berdikari Village, Palolo District, and Kamarora A Village, Nokilalaki District. Previously, the deceased was from Ampera Village,” said Ahmad Yani, Head of Disaster Division at BPBD Sigi, when met by the media in Dolo on Thursday.

He explained that the victim from Berdikari Village had a pre-existing medical condition at the time of the earthquake.

“During the earthquake, the victim fell and suffered a heart attack, subsequently being rushed to Bala Keselamatan Hospital in Palu City. Because the data collection process had not yet been included in the initial report, the victim was not previously recorded,” he said.

“This victim also had a history of tumours, so the impact they sustained is suspected to have exacerbated their health condition,” he added.

According to him, both victims received medical treatment and were transported to hospitals, including RSUD Torabelo and RS Bala Keselamatan Palu.

“The data collection process is currently ongoing,” he stated.

Based on data as of 18 June, the number of affected residents has reached 2,109 households, comprising 6,412 individuals in Sigi Regency. A total of 84 public facilities have been damaged, including schools, places of worship, government offices, community health centres, and clean water networks.

“Houses in Sigi Regency that have sustained damage also total 1,652 units, consisting of 1,472 units with light damage, 111 units with moderate damage, and 69 units with heavy damage, spread across 38 villages,” he said.

It is reported that the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency) recorded a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 striking the Palu, Central Sulawesi region on Tuesday (16/6) at 10:27 WIB.
