Sightings of Chinese Electric Trucks in Indonesia, Featuring Giants

Visitors viewed various electric trucks at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Commercial Vehicle Expo (GIICOMVEC) 2026 at JIExpo Kemayoran on Saturday (11 April 2026). Several commercial vehicle producers exhibited their flagship electric trucks to attract attention from logistics and transportation industry players in Indonesia. One of the highlights was the electric truck from Sany, namely the Sany SE588 EV with its large dimensions. This vehicle drew attention due to its massive design and suitability for the mining sector and heavy operations. The Sany SE588 EV is a three-axle tractor head weighing 14.3 tonnes. This Chinese-origin truck is equipped with a 588 kWh battery that can be charged via two 600A DC fast chargers, with a 20–80 per cent charge time of less than 55 minutes. The truck can travel 135 to 240 kilometres on a single charge. Its interior is quite modern, featuring a large infotainment screen and a digital speedometer cluster, and it is priced at around Rp3.2 billion. Besides Sany, the Chinese producer JAC Motors presented the UrbanMover N90 EV. This lightweight electric truck is designed for logistics distribution needs across various industries, particularly for companies requiring efficient and environmentally friendly fleets. The JAC UrbanMover N90 EV is available in two wheelbase variants with a gross weight of 9 tonnes and a 106.95 kWh battery. This vehicle can travel up to 250 kilometres and is equipped with safety features such as ESC, Hill Start Assist, and Air Brake System, priced at Rp740 million during the exhibition. Another producer, Foton, also showcased electric commercial vehicles through the Foton eTruck Mate (EWF3-2.5). This lightweight cargo truck is designed for urban logistics needs, including SMEs, e-commerce, and last-mile distribution with a 1-tonne carrying capacity. The Foton eTruck Mate is powered by a 60 kW electric motor with 220 Nm torque and a 41.86 kWh LFP battery. This vehicle can travel 220–250 kilometres, features fast charging, compact dimensions, and is priced at around Rp370 million as an environmentally friendly logistics solution.
