SIG Teams Up with BRIN to Boost Innovation in Sustainable Building Material Products
Jakarta, VIVA – PT Semen Indonesia Tbk (SIG) is collaborating with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to develop high-quality, environmentally friendly construction material solutions, in support of sustainable and innovative national development.
Chief Executive Indrieffouny Indra said that the demand for building materials and the responsibility to realise sustainable development push the company to continue delivering product and service solutions based on research and innovation.
‘We realise this initiative through collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in a research, invention, and innovation partnership in the cement industry and its derivatives,’ Indra said in a statement from Jakarta, Saturday, 23 May 2026.
The collaboration between SIG and BRIN was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between SIG’s Chief Executive Indrieffouny Indra and BRIN’s Deputy for Research Utilisation and Innovation R. Hendrian, which took place during the ‘BRIN Goes To Industry 4’ programme in Jakarta.
Indra emphasised that research is the key to delivering building material products that are superior and sustainable to address the challenges and needs in the construction sector, which is increasingly dynamic.
Therefore the company collaborates with various relevant parties, including BRIN, to strengthen research and innovation in cement and its derivatives. The scope of the collaboration includes research activities to create innovative cement product derivatives that are applicable, the joint utilisation of facilities and infrastructure in accordance with research activities.
Subsequently, policy advocacy for implementing sustainable development, providing product and service solutions that support national economic recovery and respond to climate change aspects, and enhancing human resources capacity.
Indra further said that the collaboration is also a strategic step to offer a range of high-quality, premium, and environmentally friendly building material solutions. ‘This move is also aligned with SIG’s transformation strategy to optimise cement derivatives and the portfolio currently being pursued by the company,’ Indra commented.
The synergy also extends the MoU that was previously established in July 2023. In the previous period, SIG and BRIN conducted several research activities, including the development of high-performance concrete with hydraulic cement.
