PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) is reviving the legendary Semen Kujang brand, once an icon of the cement industry in West Java. This strategic move aims to strengthen market penetration in the region by combining local heritage with product technology innovation relevant to current construction needs. Semen Kujang was first produced in West Java in 1975. The brand, a source of pride for the local community, now returns with modern technology to create a more robust and relevant product ready to meet future challenges. SIG Managing Director Indrieffouny Indra stated that Semen Kujang is a local heritage that has been part of West Java’s development history. The relaunch aligns with SIG’s transformation strategy to provide innovative, high-quality, and sustainable building material solutions, while making a real contribution to West Java’s development and strengthening the competitiveness of the national building materials industry. Semen Kujang is a Portland Composite Cement (PCC) type complying with SNI 7064:2022, produced by SIG’s subsidiary, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, at its Narogong plant in West Java. The product features Active Micro Particle technology, where micro granules optimally fill cavities to create a denser, stronger, and more durable building structure. SIG Sales and Marketing Director Dicky Saelan explained that this technology offers three main advantages: stronger adhesion, a smoother finishing surface, and denser casting results. He added that the company aims to deliver a premium quality product while restoring local pride in a brand that is part of the region’s development history. The history of Semen Kujang began with the establishment of PT Semen Cibinong in 1971 by PT Semen Gresik (Persero) in partnership with Gypsum Carrier and Bamerical International Financial Corporation. Factory construction started in 1973 in Narogong, West Java. In 1975, the plant, with an annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes, was inaugurated by President Soeharto and began operations under the Semen Kujang brand. Two years later, in August 1977, PT Semen Cibinong conducted its Initial Public Offering (IPO), becoming the first company to list on the Indonesian stock exchange after the capital market was reactivated.
