Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) has officially relaunched Semen Kujang, a brand originally introduced in 1975, to meet the needs of the construction market in West Java.

SIG President Director Indrieffouny Indra stated that the decision to bring back Semen Kujang was driven by the market potential in West Java and the deep-rooted familiarity the local community has with the long-established brand.

“For us, this is not merely about reintroducing a product, but rather the beginning of a new era of interaction and experience with our customers. Today, we collectively welcome the return of Semen Kujang,” Indrieffouny said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The relaunch of Semen Kujang took place during an event in Bandung, West Java, on Friday (28/8), attended by SIG’s board of directors and commissioners, distribution partners, and 387 building material stores from Purwakarta, Karawang, Subang, Sumedang, and Bandung.

SIG noted that Semen Kujang has been a part of the West Java building materials market since its initial introduction in 1975.

SIG Director of Sales and Marketing, Dicky Saelan, explained that the reactivation of the brand maintains its well-known identity while updating the product with modern building material technology.

“We want to restore a brand that is a source of pride for the Sundanese people, while simultaneously presenting a product with cutting-edge technology that is more robust, relevant, and ready to meet future challenges,” said Dicky.

Semen Kujang is a Portland Composite Cement (PCC) type, compliant with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 7064:2022, and is produced by SIG subsidiary PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk at the Narogong Plant in West Java.

According to the company, the product utilises Active Micro Particle technology, featuring micro-particles designed to fill material voids more optimally, resulting in a denser building structure.

Dicky added that the development of Semen Kujang is also directed towards production technologies that prioritise sustainability.

“Semen Kujang is our pride because it brings innovation through a sustainable and environmentally friendly production process, offering strong adhesion, a smoother surface, and denser casting results,” he said.

The company stated that the return of Semen Kujang is part of its strategy to expand its brand portfolio using an approach tailored to the specific characteristics and needs of the West Java market.

SIG is a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) operating in the building materials industry, with the Indonesian Government holding a 51 per cent stake. The holding company oversees several cement producers, including PT Semen Padang, PT Semint Gresik, PT Semen Tonasa, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, PT Semen Baturaja, and Thang Long Cement Company in Vietnam.
