SIG partners with Taiheiyo Cement to expand soil stabilisation business
Jakarta — PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) has partnered with Taiheiyo Cement Corporation to develop the soil stabilisation business to expand its construction market reach and provide soil stabilisation solutions for infrastructure development.
“The soil stabilisation business collaboration is an expansion of SIG’s existing cooperation with Taiheiyo Cement Corporation, which has been functioning well,” said SIG Chief Executive Officer Indrieffouny Indra in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He stated that the collaboration would expand the company’s product and business portfolio, further strengthening SIG’s position as an Indonesian building materials industry player.
“SIG understands the diverse construction needs of its customers, including pre-construction ground conditions management to ensure the long-term durability of buildings or roads,” he said.
According to him, the collaboration with Taiheiyo Cement Corporation in soil stabilisation represents a strategic step in SIG’s business expansion to create market opportunities.
He noted that varying soil conditions pose one of the key challenges in constructing robust infrastructure capable of adapting to natural conditions across Indonesia’s diverse geographical regions.
“This is where SIG plays a role through the soil stabilisation business collaboration agreement with Japan-based Taiheiyo Cement Corporation,” he explained.
He stated that the collaboration between the two Asian building materials companies aims to address construction industry challenges whilst creating new markets to unlock growth opportunities.
Soil stabilisation is a material designed to compact soft soils such as expansive soil, peat soil, high-organic soil, marine clay, and fragmented clay soil.
The soil stabilisation business collaboration between SIG and Taiheiyo Cement Corporation encompasses development, production, marketing and sales processes, involving business entities from each company, including PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, PT Mitra Kiara Indonesia, and Taiheiyo International Indonesia.
The soil stabilisation business agreement was signed by SIG Chief Executive Officer Indrieffouny Indra; PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI) Chief Executive Officer Rizki Kresno Edhie Hambali; PT Mitra Kiara Indonesia Chief Executive Officer Mirza Whibowo Soenarto; Taiheiyo Cement Corporation President and Representative Director Yoshifumi Taura; and PT Taiheiyo International Indonesia Chief Executive Officer Makoto Nakano in January 2026 at Taiheiyo Cement Corporation’s offices in Tokyo, Japan.
Taiheiyo Cement Corporation President and Representative Director Yoshifumi Taura stated that since establishing a strategic partnership with SIG, the company is committed to developing soil stabilisation business in Indonesia.
He said the sector has become one of the important areas of collaboration where both companies are building shared experience and trust.
“We believe the synergy of the five companies’ capabilities will accelerate the provision of high-quality solutions that contribute to Indonesia’s infrastructure development and sustainable growth,” said Yoshifumi.
