SIG Group and Partners Expand 'Recycle for Good' Campaign
Jakarta (ANTARA) - SIG Group and its partners are expanding the “Recycle for Good” campaign in Indonesia, as part of the development of activities previously conducted in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.
“This programme is an initiative to provide education to the public and also to facilitate the process of waste sorting and collection,” said Noer Wellington, Commercial Director of SIG Group for Southeast Asia, Japan, and Korea, in Jakarta on Monday.
The expansion of the campaign is also part of SIG Group’s regional project, “Recycle for Good-Prevent Marine Litter,” which receives support from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Plastic Bank, the Wuppertal Institute, and Decision Context.
Noer added that the expansion aims to strengthen efforts in waste sorting, collection, and recycling, as well as to encourage the participation of the public and stakeholders throughout the packaging waste value chain.
Currently, the initiatives cover activities in the regions of Jakarta, West Java, Surabaya and Malang in East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and Bali.
To date, the project has been implemented in 3ly 389 locations, supported by a diverse network of participating partners, including schools, communities, cafes, businesses, religious institutions, and waste collectors.
This approach also positions waste collectors and local collection networks as vital components of the recycling ecosystem. By strengthening the connectivity between community-level collection systems and more formal recycling channels, the campaign is expected to increase material recovery while supporting the livelihoods of those dependent on the recycling ecosystem.
The expansion of the waste recycling campaign, which aims to minimise the presence of marine litter, is also being implemented in two other Southeast Asian countries, namely Thailand and the Philippines. In these three countries, the “Recycle for Good-Prevent Marine Litter” project will continue until December 2028.
