SIG expands Indonesian cement export market through Tuban facility

PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) is expanding its export market reach through the inauguration of a new export dock and production facility in Tuban, East Java. SIG President Director Indrieffouny Indra stated that the facility’s operation marks a strategic step in building new growth sources while strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global building materials supply chain. “This moment brings SIG to its main goal of creating growth opportunities, supporting sustainable development, and elevating Indonesia’s name on the international stage through products made by the nation’s own people,” Indrieffouny said. The facility, inaugurated on Thursday (11/6), has a capacity of up to one million tonnes of cement per year and will serve as the primary base for boosting SIG’s exports, especially to the United States. The development was carried out through a strategic partnership between SIG’s subsidiary, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, and Japan’s Taiheiyo Cement Corporation. Throughout 2026, SIG is targeting phased exports of 450,000 metric tonnes of specialty cement to the United States. Indrieffouny added that the company’s transformation is not only focused on strengthening the domestic market but also on increasing export contributions to optimise production utility and expand long-term business opportunities. “Amid domestic industry overcapacity, industry players including SIG are required to continuously innovate and take strategic steps to become more competitive and the top choice for customers in a tight market,” he said. To support efficient and sustainable operations, the Tuban export facility is equipped with various modern technologies. The export terminal, with a capacity of up to 50,000 DWT, features a 4.1-kilometre tube conveyor, a tripper conveyor, and a ship loader with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes per hour capable of delivering bulk cement directly from the plant to vessels at the dock. The production facility includes an 8,000-tonne blending silo system, a 15,000-tonne clinker silo system, and two cement silo systems each with an 18,000-tonne capacity. Indrieffouny also expressed appreciation to Taiheiyo Cement Corporation for the synergy and collaboration, noting that the partnership not only strengthens economic ties between Indonesia and Japan but also opens opportunities for business development and capability enhancement for both companies. SIG President Commissioner Sigit Widyawan emphasised that the facility’s inauguration marks the beginning of a larger effort to optimise it as a driver of sustainable growth. “Maintaining quality remains the top priority to enhance competitiveness. After that, efficiency must also be continuously strengthened to become more competitive and open opportunities to penetrate even broader markets,” Sigit said.
