Sidoarjo's Night-Time Driving Licence Service Proves a Boon for Workers

The Sidoarjo Police Traffic Unit has introduced an innovation in the form of a night-time driving licence (SIM) renewal service on weekends through a programme called Si Mantap (Integrated One-Stop Night Service). Since its launch, the service has been met with an overwhelming response from the public who have flocked to the service location.

Sidoarjo Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Christian Tobing, stated that the high public interest is dominated by commuter workers and factory labourers. This group often finds it difficult to take time off to handle their driving administration during regular working hours.

‘Public enthusiasm has been very high since this service opened. We deliberately present the Si Mantap service at the Delta Sidoarjo Sports Hall (Gate B) every Saturday and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. WIB to provide additional time for residents who are busy in the morning or afternoon,’ said Senior Commissioner Christian Tobing on Tuesday evening.

In the first two days of operation, hundreds of residents utilised the facility. One of the main advantages of Si Mantap is its one-stop system, which integrates all processes, from health tests to psychology tests, in a single location. Yulia (30), an applicant from Wonoayu, Sidoarjo, felt the benefits directly.

‘I only needed about 30 minutes from start to finish, the process was quick and simple. I was really helped because I didn’t have to sacrifice work time,’ she said.

In addition to the speed of the process, the service is also flexible as it is integrated nationally online. This allows residents from outside Sidoarjo Regency to extend their licences at this service post or via the mobile SIM unit on standby. However, it should be noted that this night service is specifically for extending the validity period of a SIM, not for new SIM applications.

Seeing the positive trend and high demand from residents both inside and outside the city, the Sidoarjo Police are currently finalising plans to expand the operational reach of ‘Si Mantap’. The police stated their readiness to increase the number of service days and target other strategic crowded locations in the Sidoarjo area to provide maximum convenience for the public.
