Sidoarjo Regency Strengthens Prevention of Violence Against Women and Children
Sidoarjo Regency continues to strengthen measures to prevent violence against women and children through education, support services, and enhanced service provision. The efforts reflect the Regency’s commitment under Regent Subandi’s guidance to create a safe environment.
Head of the Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning Agency (P3AKB) Sidoarjo Regency, Heni Kristiani, stated that various preventive measures are ongoing and involve cross-sectoral collaboration.
“We are continuously strengthening prevention and handling in collaboration with all partners, including integrating the women and child protection hotline with relevant sectors,” Heni said on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
From January to May 2026, P3AKB recorded 138 cases of violence against women and children. Domestic violence remains the highest with 46 cases, followed by sexual abuse at 30 cases. Online gender-based violence has also drawn attention.
“Online gender-based violence (KBGO) cases have risen from five in 2023 to eight in 2025. By May 2026, four cases had been recorded, indicating a growing digital threat,” Heni explained.
Sidoarjo Regency regularly holds coordination meetings to prevent violence against women and children and human trafficking crimes. Public awareness campaigns are intensifying in schools and communities to extend preventive efforts to families and neighbourhoods.
“We are directly engaging with schools and communities to drive prevention,” Heni added.
The agency is also enhancing service officers’ capacity through case management training and trauma counselling. Staff readiness is crucial to ensure victims receive prompt and appropriate support.
Additionally, PUSPAGA Rinata, or the Family Learning Centre ‘Rumah Informasi Kita’, is being maximised. This aligns with Regent Subandi’s support and guidance to make women and child protection a shared priority.
“We are also establishing Child and Women-Friendly Villages (DRPPA) in villages and urban villages as part of protection efforts,” Heni concluded.
