Sidoarjo Regent Subandi stated that the entire budget for road maintenance this year has been allocated. The local government will now focus on the road concretisation program. “Regarding the progress of road projects, our budget for road maintenance has been fully utilised. We will now proceed with concretisation,” said Subandi on Friday (15 April 2026).

The local government is also collaborating on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs to optimise road infrastructure maintenance. “Recently, we received a CSR contribution of IDR 600 million from Delta Artha, which we will utilise,” he added.

Subandi mentioned that the physical infrastructure project, in collaboration with CSR initiatives, is planned to be launched at the end of June 2026. He wants the project implementation process to be more transparent and provide opportunities for contractors in Sidoarjo.

“At the very least, all contractors should have the opportunity to participate. Secondly, we want to eliminate practices such as using front companies or borrowing company registrations. We will gather all company profiles and assess them to ensure that we assign good quality work,” said Subandi.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Works and Water Resources Department of Sidoarjo Regency, Makhmud, explained that road damage is not only caused by weather factors but also by vehicles exceeding the road’s capacity.

“The tonnage of vehicles passing through Sidoarjo has indeed exceeded the limits,” said Makhmud.

Therefore, the local government has also proposed a change in road classification to the provincial and central governments, such as on the East Ring Road to Sukodono-Gedangan.

“We have submitted this road classification proposal to the Governor. The enforcement measures will be determined after the decree is issued,” he said.

In addition, the age of the asphalt also contributes to the condition of roads in Sidoarjo. The local government hopes that road resurfacing can be carried out gradually starting in 2027. Currently, road repairs are carried out daily by five task forces. A total of 92 road sections are being addressed.

“Of these, 42 are contractual projects, and approximately 50 road sections are being handled by the task forces. In total, we are working on 92 road sections. We have a large number of road sections in total, not including those in sub-districts that have their own Public Works departments,” Makhmud concluded.
