The Sidoarjo Regency government continues to accelerate infrastructure repair work in several areas. This step is taken to ensure that community transportation access runs smoothly and safely before the Eid al-Fitr holiday period this year.

One of the main focuses of the repair is on two strategic road sections in Sukodono district, namely the Kebonagung-Sukodono road and the Sukodono-Ponokawan road. The Regent of Sidoarjo, Subandi, directly reviewed the progress of the work in the field to ensure that the quality of the project meets standards.

Prioritise Material Quality

In his review, Subandi instructed the Public Works, Bina Marga and Water Resources Office (PUBMSDA) of Sidoarjo to not compromise on material quality. He emphasised the transition in the use of overlay techniques from coolmix asphalt to hotmix asphalt for greater durability.

“I ask the contractor to ensure that the materials used are of good quality. If using coolmix asphalt is not sufficient, we must use hotmix asphalt, with a minimum thickness of three to four centimetres,” said Subandi at the location on Tuesday (24/2).

Target Completion

The maintenance project covers the Kebonagung-Sukodono section, which is four kilometres long, and the Sukodono-Ponokawan section, which is five kilometres long. The Sidoarjo Regency government is committed to intensive monitoring at points prone to potholes to prevent endangering drivers.

“We are continuously monitoring this together with Assistant II, the Head of the Public Works Office, the Sub-district Head, and the Village Head. Hopefully, the road repairs that we are carrying out today will be completed during Ramadan. So that during Eid, all roads will be in good condition,” continued Subandi.

Long-Term Concrete Plan

Given the high volume of heavy vehicles such as trucks and containers on the Kebonagung-Sukodono section, the Sidoarjo Regency government has prepared a concrete scheme as a permanent solution in the future.

“This year, we have nine concrete points. For this section (Kebonagung-Sukodono), God willing, in 2027 we will carry out concrete construction because the traffic of heavy vehicles is indeed high,” Subandi concluded. (HS/P-2)

This repair is not just routine maintenance, but a strategic effort to minimise the risk of accidents and logistical obstacles.

Of the several road sections to be repaired this year, it is planned that the West Java Provincial Government will intervene.

The repairs are carried out to ensure the safety and comfort of road users.

TRANSPORTATION safety can only be achieved if all stakeholders have the same commitment to providing safe roads for all users.

The repairs are focused on the section in Simaninggir Village, Sitahuis District, which experienced severe damage due to a natural disaster on 25 November 2025.
