Sidoarjo Police uncover case of protected wildlife trafficking

East Java’s Polresta Sidoarjo, on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, disclosed a case of illegal trade in and possession of protected wildlife without a permit. Police arrested a suspect implicated in trafficking and storage of protected species, including seven protected animals: a Klihingan hornbill (Anorrhinus galeritus); a julang emas (Rhyticeros undulatus); a black-headed lorikeet (Lorius lory); a Java gibbon (Hylobates moloch); a Javan lutung (Trachypithecus auratus); a Mueller’s gibbon (Hylobates muelleri); and a Kalimantan gibbon (Hylobates albibarbis), dating back to 2021. The animals were seized during the operation, with footage showing them in cages.
