Sidoarjo Fire Brigade Rescues 700kg Sacrificial Cow That Rampaged and Fell into River

A 700kg sacrificial cow suddenly rampaged and fled, falling into a river in Entalsewu Village, Buduran District, Sidoarjo Regency, on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. The cow, covered in mud, had its legs stuck and could not move. Residents attempted to rescue the Limousin breed cow but failed. Residents then contacted the Sidoarjo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Fire Department. The muddy conditions made rescue difficult. After two hours, the cow was successfully retrieved as firefighters slowly pulled it out with ropes. “This cow had just arrived from Trawas, Mojokerto, but suddenly panicked and fled. We chased it and it fell into the river,” said resident Krisna Wahyudi. Sidoarjo BPBD Fire Department officer Rio Bagas Prakosa said it took over two hours to rescue the cow. The cow was rescued without injuries. “Fortunately, there were no casualties when the cow rampaged and fell into the river,” Rio said. Various spice pastes for gulai, rawon, satay, and rendang are in high demand among residents for cooking during the upcoming Eid. This year’s Eid al-Adha, the foundation anticipates managing 35 to 40 cattle and 120 to 130 goats. The presence of the Reog Ponorogo team at the event is a concrete step to introduce and preserve cultural heritage for younger generations. The presidential sacrificial animal will be distributed to a mosque in Jabon District, chosen to ensure equitable meat distribution among the community. Regent Subandi also assured that the land acquisition process would be transparent and community-focused.
