Sidoarjo BPJS Employment Participation Exceeds Target, Focus Shifts to Poverty Reduction
The Sidoarjo Regency Government continues to strengthen its commitment to protecting vulnerable workers through the expansion of social security coverage. Although BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership in the region has already exceeded the regional target, the regency government has emphasised that the main focus has now shifted to the tangible impact on public welfare.
Sidoarjo Regional Secretary Fenny Apridawati stated that social security protection must not stop at achieving quantitative figures. She made the remarks at the Socialisation of Sidoarjo Regent Regulation Number 17 of 2026 and the launch of the ASN Cares for Vulnerable Workers Movement at the DoubleTree Hotel Surabaya on Tuesday (18/8).
“The target set is not merely about chasing membership numbers. What is more important is how this social security protection genuinely delivers an impact on public welfare and helps reduce the poverty rate,” Fenny asserted.
Fenny instructed that future membership evaluations be directly integrated with the socio-economic dynamics of residents, particularly community groups in deciles 1 to 5. As a concrete step, the regency government launched the ASN Cares for Vulnerable Workers Movement, starting with structural officials.
In addition, all Regional Apparatus Organisations (OPD) have been instructed to ensure protection for vulnerable workers.
Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Sidoarjo, Arie Fianto Sofyan, presented the latest data on membership and benefit disbursement in the Sidoarjo area. As of 14 August 2026, membership coverage had exceeded the initial target.
Regarding benefit distribution, Arie revealed that from January to July 2026, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Sidoarjo had disbursed benefits amounting to Rp607 billion to approximately 31,000 workers. This figure adds to the accumulated benefits up to 2025, which reached Rp2.2 trillion for more than 204,000 beneficiaries.
“We continue to collaborate with the Sidoarjo Regency Government to expand Universal Coverage Jamsostek (UCJ) while ensuring that workers who are already protected do not lose their coverage again,” Arie concluded.
