PT Industri Jamu Dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk (Sido Muncul), in collaboration with the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (Perdami) Central Board and RS Unimedika Sumber Waras Cirebon, operated on 100 cataract patients on Wednesday (24/6). The activity was part of a social service event themed ‘Towards Sido Muncul’s 75th Anniversary’ in November 2026. Through its flagship products, Tolak Angin and Kuku Bima, Sido Muncul demonstrated its commitment to reducing the rate of blindness caused by cataracts in Indonesia. The event was officially opened in a hybrid format, with Sido Muncul Director Dr (HC) Irwan Hidayat attending online from the RS Sumber Waras hall in Cirebon. From Cirebon, Head of the Cirebon Regency Health Office Eni Suhaeni attended representing the regent. Also present were Ciwaringin Sub-district Head M Firdaus Agih, Acting Kuwu of Ciwaringin Zaenal Muttaqien, Ciwaringin Police Chief AKP Sri Nurhayati, Ciwaringin Military Commandant Captain Edi Wahyono, Head of Ciwaringin Community Health Centre Didi Junaedi, and Director of RS Sumber Waras Budi S Soenjaya. In her remarks, Eni expressed appreciation for all parties collaborating on the initiative. ‘Those operated on today, may their vision be restored. On behalf of the Cirebon Regency government, I express my appreciation and thanks to all parties collaborating in this activity. Thank you to Sido Muncul, Perdami, and RS Sumber Waras. Through this activity, we hope that residents whose vision has been impaired can carry out daily activities independently after the surgery,’ said Eni. It is known that the waiting list for cataract surgery is generally very long, ranging from three months to a year. ‘At the eye clinic, the waiting list is up to a year; at this hospital, it can be six months. The ladies and gentlemen operated on today should thank Sido Muncul, so you could be operated on without a long wait,’ Eni added. Eni hoped those operated on would follow the follow-up advice from health workers at RS Sumber Waras. ‘I hope you follow the health workers’ instructions, from the surgery list to post-operative care. You must come for a check-up tomorrow and be compliant with follow-ups. Because if you only have surgery without taking medication, the operated eye will take a long time to heal. Healthy eyes, clear vision, improved quality of life,’ Eni concluded. Irwan explained that since 2011, the company has channelled aid to operate on 57,000 cataract patients in cooperation with Perdami Central Board. For 2026, a total of 475 cataract patients have been operated on so far, while in 2025, the figure was 1,050. ‘There are many cataract sufferers. The backlog of surgeries is large. About one per cent of our population suffers from cataracts, which is around 280,000 people. We are committed to continuing cataract operations, helping the community through our products, Tolak Angin and Kuku Bima. I apologise if there is anything amiss, and I hope that after the surgery, you can see again. And to all the ladies and gentlemen at the hospital, I pray for your good health,’ said Irwan. Director of RS Sumber Waras, Cirebon, Budi Sanjaya also expressed appreciation for the event. Budi conveyed many thanks for the assistance from the donor, Sido Muncul. ‘We from the hospital express our deepest gratitude for supporting today’s event. Cataracts remain a major disease. Hopefully, after the surgery, your vision will return to normal,’ said Budi. With the social service, Budi added, the cataract waiting list at the hospital could be expedited. ‘Ladies and gentlemen, please come for your check-up promptly. Take your medication. If there are any problems, ask your doctor directly so you can recover completely,’ he added.
