Sido Herbalpedia Platform Brings Herbal Education to the Public

Knowledge about herbal medicine, once passed down orally, is now increasingly developed through scientific research and studies. This helps the public understand the potential of herbal plants more clearly and use them wisely.

With advancing technology and growing awareness of healthy lifestyles, and as a tangible contribution from the company to improving public health, PT Industri Jamu Dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk (Sido Muncul) has launched Sido HerbalPedia and SiHerbie - Your Smart Herbal Assistant, a digital platform acting as the Herbal and Health Information Centre.

Sido Muncul’s President Director and initiator of the Sido HerbalPedia Compendium and Digital Portal, Dr (HC) Irwan Hidayat, stated that the launch of Sido HerbalPedia marks the beginning of a series of events for Sido Muncul’s 75th anniversary, with an initiative focused on providing broader, trustworthy, and holistic health information.

“This platform can serve as the primary reference for anyone seeking access to scientific and easily understandable health information. By understanding the scientific background behind each herbal plant, the public is expected to integrate and utilise the potential of herbal medicines into modern lifestyles in a safe and effective manner,” said Irwan, at the Sido HerbalPedia Launch Event in Jakarta on Thursday (23/4/2026).

“We hope this step can encourage the public to improve community health quality, so that a healthier and happier life can be realised for more people,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sido Muncul’s Marketing Director Maria Reviani Hidayat said that in this advanced era, the public can access information from anywhere and anytime. However, this often confuses people due to the overwhelming amount of information received.

“So we created Sido HerbalPedia with the spirit of providing reliable, trustworthy herbal information. All sources displayed here are based on research journals,” said Maria.

“The information we have gathered is also from reliable journals,” she added.

In line with this, as part of Sido Muncul’s 75th anniversary events, Maria hopes the launch of Sido HerbalPedia can contribute to Indonesia. She hopes the platform can serve as a means to educate the public with trustworthy information.

“May it provide reliable information to the public, with real scientific evidence. And it can educate the public on the use of herbal medicines,” said Maria.

On the same occasion, Sido Muncul’s Independent Commissioner Dr dr Moh Adib Khumaidi, SpOT explained the importance of preventive and promotive approaches. According to Dr Adib, this aligns with the government’s programme in building a healthy paradigm.

“So in principle, the keyword is that health starts from ourselves. Health should not wait until illness strikes. The most important is the preventive and promotive approach,” said Dr Adib.

“What Sido Muncul is doing through this education is an important part in supporting those efforts. Maintaining health is certainly better than waiting for illness, and this aligns with the government’s programme in building a healthy paradigm,” he stated.

Dr Adib added that the Sido HerbalPedia platform becomes a medium of information that can be directly accessed by the public to understand ways to maintain health, including from widely known natural ingredients. However, most importantly, the approach is now not only based on empirical experience but also supported by scientific literature.

“Sido Muncul is starting this as part of ensuring that what is done in the products made by Sido Muncul is inseparable from its scientific processes. There is a literature review,” said Dr Adib.

Professor Dr Fathur Rokhman, a Professor at Semarang State University and one of the Sido HerbalPedia compilation team, viewed the platform from an academic and educational perspective. Prof Fathur is a senior academic with extensive experience in higher education leadership and research development.

“I see this from two sides. First from the scientific side, namely how this work is compiled based on scientific epistemology,” said Prof Fathur.

“We conducted checks on the academic reviews used, ensuring all references come from reputable international journals and valid research. As a result, all cited literature can be scientifically accounted for,” he stated.

Meanwhile, from the educational aspect, Prof Fathur considers what Sido Muncul is conveying to the public through the Sido HerbalPedia platform as excellent education. So far, jamu has often been seen as traditional, whereas now it has developed on a clinical basis.

“From the educational aspect, what Mr Irwan and the team will provide to the public is extraordinary education. Actually, we already know a lot about jamu,” explained Prof Fathur.

“But the connotation of jamu is traditional, while we have now developed jamu on a clinical basis. And the packaging made by Mr Irwan is clinically based. So it can be chosen by the public as a practical option,” he added.

According to Prof Fathur, this is important because the public not only knows the benefits of ingredients like turmeric or temulawak, but also understands the proper dosage and effects. Moreover, this approach can encourage collaboration between herbal and modern medicine.

“In the end, health can be achieved through various approaches, whether chemical or herbal. If both are collaborated properly, the results will be very good,” said Prof Fathur.

“This also becomes part of Indonesia’s contribution to the world,” he added.
