REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Member of Commission I of the West Java DPRD, Sidkon Djampi, has stressed the importance of accelerating regional divisions to promote equitable public services in West Java. He made this statement during a meeting of the West Java Forum for Coordination of Accelerating the Formation of New Autonomous Regions (Forkoda PPDOB) with the Regional Representative Council (DPD) RI in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/4/2026). Sidkon said that regional division is a necessity given the expansive area and large population of West Java. “This division is so that services are closer, faster, and the community can be better attended to,” he stated. According to him, there are still areas with suboptimal access to services due to the overly broad span of government control. “If the regions are better managed, the government can be more focused. This is about service equity,” Sidkon added. On that occasion, the West Java Forkoda PPDOB also conveyed aspirations to the DPD RI to lift the moratorium on regional divisions as soon as possible. General Secretary of the West Java Forkoda PPDOB, Muhammad Sufyan Abdurrahman, said that revoking the moratorium is crucial for providing certainty to the process of forming new autonomous regions. “We hope for a push from the DPD RI so that divisions are reopened and the regulations strengthened,” he said. Staff of Committee I of the DPD RI, Fahri Okta, stated that these aspirations would be followed up. “We will convey them to the leadership and schedule further discussions,” he said.
