Member of Commission I of the West Java DPRD, Sidkon Djampi, has stressed that the media world is increasingly demanded to be adaptive in facing the rapid flow of digital transformation. According to him, changes in society’s information consumption patterns have become the main challenge that must be addressed by the press community. He explained that Commission I has one of its fields closely related to communications and broadcasting. Therefore, media dynamics have become an important concern in efforts to maintain the quality of information in the public sphere. “Commission I covers communications and broadcasting. This is a strategic sector because the flow of information greatly influences the quality of democracy and the way society understands various issues,” Sidkon stated on Tuesday (28/4/2026). According to him, media today is not only demanded to be quick in delivering information but also must continue to prioritise accuracy, balance, and journalistic ethics. Amid the strong current of digital flows, he reminded media not to get trapped in speed alone without adequate verification. Sidkon, who once worked at Republika’s West Java branch from 1993 to 1997, assessed that media transformation is an inevitability that cannot be avoided. However, the basic values of journalism must still be maintained. “This change cannot be rejected. Media must be able to transform following the developments of the times. But what must not change is the commitment to truth and responsibility to the public,” he said. He also encouraged media practitioners to continuously improve their capacity and professionalism, as well as to utilise technology wisely. According to him, public trust is the main asset that must be maintained amid increasingly tight media competition. “In the midst of the current flood of information, media must be present as a trusted reference. Adaptive in technology, but still strong in principles,” he concluded.
