Sidewalk Concrete in Badung Suddenly Collapses, Explosion Heard
A loud explosion occurred on the provincial road in Darmasaba Village, Abiansemal Subdistrict, Badung, on Friday morning (17/4/2026). The incident caused severe damage to the sidewalk concrete along a 25-metre stretch.
“Yes, I was shocked; the explosion sound was quite loud. I was startled too,” said one of the traders at the scene, Andia (45).
The explosion, which emerged from under the drainage around 09:00 WITA, was reported to have triggered strong vibrations and thin smoke. Residents and road users passing along the Denpasar to Petang route panicked momentarily due to sparks of fire appearing from the concrete gaps.
“There was a bit of smoke and a gas smell. I was worried about any follow-up blasts, but Alhamdulillah, nothing happened,” Andia added, describing the atmosphere at the location.
Observations at the site showed that the sidewalk destroyed by the explosion extended from in front of the petrol station to about 25 metres southwards. The suspected source of the mysterious explosion remains unknown.
Police from the Abiansemal Police Sector and Badung Police Resort are still at the scene investigating the cause of the incident. Officers are currently examining the possibility of natural gas accumulation under the drainage or other technical factors as the trigger for the explosion.
