Sidaya Card eases transport and healthcare access for elderly students

The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga/BKKBN) has stated that all students enrolled in Elderly Schools registered on the Sidaya app automatically receive the Sidaya Card to simplify access to public transport and healthcare services. Acting Director of Family Resilience for the Elderly and Vulnerable at Kemendukbangga/BKKBN, Elsa Pongtuluran, stated that the card serves as an identity for Elderly School participants while also simplifying access to various support services and facilities. Participant data is stored directly in the app, allowing it to be shown via mobile phone with the assistance of a caregiver. “The Sidaya Card is integrated with several services, including transport access. We have coordinated with the Ministry of Transportation to provide special facilities for Elderly School groups when travelling together, enabling them to access dedicated lanes and seated arrangements in a single carriage without long queues,” she said in Jakarta on Tuesday. There are currently 3,051 Elderly Schools across Indonesia, with all students connected to the Sidaya app system. The programme is part of the government’s efforts to improve elderly quality of life while promoting resilient and productive ageing. Kemendukbangga/BKKBN also stressed the importance of addressing loneliness among the elderly, as it can impact mental health and increase depression risk. Therefore, Elderly Schools are encouraged to serve as social interaction spaces that help seniors remain active, healthy, and productive.
