Sidatapa Bamboo Weaving Crafts Towards Leading Creative Products
Bamboo weaving crafts as a leading product in Sidatapa Village, Buleleng Regency, continue to be strengthened. Product innovation based on local culture and the regeneration of craftsmen are being optimised. This is the mission of the ‘Youth Empowerment: Implementation of Youth Empowerment Programme’ run by Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) in Sidatapa Village, Buleleng Regency. The programme targets the sustainable development of Sidatapa Village as a Bamboo Weaving Craft Centre.
The programme is chaired by I Nyoman Sila with team members I Made Aditya Dharma, Anak Agung Istri Dewi Adhi Utami, and Uzlifatul Hazanah. In its second year, the programme is directed at increasing the capacity of Sidatapa Village youth in developing bamboo weaving products, particularly lantern production, while strengthening the capabilities of craftsman groups through the use of appropriate technology, design innovation, and branding strategies.
The programme began on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 and runs over 12 meetings until 7 August 2026. The opening activity, held at the Sidatapa Village Head Office, marked the start of the second-year Youth Empowerment Programme series. Also present were the Sidatapa Village Secretary as representative of the Village Head who could not attend, the Ananta Desain Lantern bamboo weaving craftsman group, and members of the Dharma Sesana Youth Organisation of Sidatapa Village.
In his remarks, I Nyoman Sila said one of the main focuses of the Youth Empowerment Programme is to increase the capacity of Sidatapa youth in the production of lanterns from bamboo weaving. This activity provides space for the younger generation to be directly involved in developing local crafts while improving skills that can support productive activities. Youth involvement is an important part of maintaining the sustainability of bamboo weaving crafts. Young people are expected not only to become successors to the skills that have developed in the community, but also to be able to develop products through creativity and innovation in line with current needs.
‘The development of lanterns from bamboo weaving is one form of product development expected to increase the added value of local crafts. The potential of Sidatapa bamboo weaving is directed to develop into creative products that still maintain local cultural character,’ he said.
In addition to improving production skills, I Nyoman Sila said the programme also encourages the use of technology. The use of technology is directed to assist the production process while increasing the work efficiency of craftsmen. Programme strengthening is also carried out through design innovation and branding strategies. Design development is directed so that lantern products and bamboo weaving crafts have added value and a more attractive appearance, while branding strategies are aimed at strengthening product identity.
‘Innovation still pays attention to the local cultural character inherent in Sidatapa bamboo weaving crafts. Thus, product development is not only oriented towards increasing economic value, but also becomes part of efforts to maintain the cultural identity of the local community,’ he explained.
The series of Youth Empowerment Programme activities is expected to bring together local cultural potential with creative economy development. Collaboration between youth, craftsman groups, and the Youth Organisation is part of efforts to build the sustainability of bamboo weaving crafts in Sidatapa Village. The Assisted Village Service Team hopes this programme can provide sustainable benefits for the Sidatapa Village community, particularly in increasing the capacity of youth and craftsman groups, developing product innovation, and strengthening local cultural identity through bamboo weaving crafts. Thus, Sidatapa bamboo weaving not only remains alive as a cultural heritage, but can also develop as a creative product that has added value and provides economic benefits for the community.
