A family in Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta, is in mourning after a house fire claimed the lives of two young siblings. The incident occurred on Jalan Pulo Mas Utara 2B on Sunday evening (26/7) at around 19:31 WIB. According to witnesses, neighbours heard a sound resembling an explosion before seeing flames rapidly spreading through the property. The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service deployed nine fire engines and 45 personnel to the scene, fully extinguishing the blaze by 21:21 WIB. The cause of the fire and the total material losses remain under police investigation. The two victims, a brother and sister born in 2011 and 2018, were found deceased in a bedroom. A security guard named Agung recounted that the children’s father had been chatting with him at a security post when residents alerted them to the fire. The father immediately ran towards the house and attempted to force his way inside to save his children, but neighbours restrained him as the flames had already grown too large. The house has since been cordoned off with police line, with the roof completely destroyed and the walls charred.
