Siblings in Cipayung, East Jakarta Die After Being Swept Away by Current While Playing in Drain

Siblings MH (9) and AH (7) died after being swept away by a current in the Lubang Buaya area, Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Monday 25 May 2026 afternoon.

Cipayung Police Station’s Reskrim Unit Head Iptu Edi Handoko stated that both victims were swept away while playing in the drain.

“They were playing in the drain near their home,” Edi said when confirmed via WhatsApp on Tuesday 26 May 2026.

After nearly two hours of search, the victims were found but already deceased.

“The search started around 16:00 and the victims were found at 18:00,” Edi Handoko explained.

According to Edi, the family accepted the incident as a tragedy, so the bodies did not undergo autopsy.

“No autopsy was conducted. The family accepted the misfortune, so no further process,” Edi said.
