Siblings Drown in Lubang Buaya Drainage Canal After Playing During Rain

According to data from Jakarta’s Disaster Management Agency (BPBD DKI), the incident occurred on Monday, 25 May 2026, in the afternoon. The victims were identified as Adan Hafizh, 9, and M Adam Rizki, 7.

BPBD DKI and other search and rescue units searched for the children after they were swept away. Joint task forces and local residents found the victims deceased.

“Adam and Adan were playing with friends in a drainage channel on Albaido Street at 4:00 PM WIB when they were suddenly swept away. Their friends immediately reported the incident to the victims’ grandfather,” according to BPBD DKI’s statement on Tuesday, 26 May.

The children resided in Albaido Street, RT 14 RW 09, Lubang Buaya Village, Cipayung District, East Jakarta. They were found several hours after being reported swept away by strong currents in the canal.

SAR teams scoured the drainage channel for the victims. Adan was discovered 500 metres from the point of disappearance, deceased. The other child was found in an irrigation channel in front of Lubang Buaya Village, also deceased.

“The victims have been located and transported to their family home, confirmed deceased,” the agency stated.

The search team comprised BPBD DKI Jakarta, the fire department, Lubang Buaya Village officials, TNI-Polri, Satpol PP, PPSU, the Water Resources Agency, FKDM, and local RT/RW officials.
