JAKARTA: PT Siambalo is developing a jatropha plantation on one-million hectares of plantation land in North Sumatra at a cost of Rp 44 trillion (US$1.5 billion).
The company's president director, Ravavi Wilson, said Friday that the jatropha plantations, located in Samosir, Tanah Karo and Deli Serdang regencies, were expected to produce 16 million tons of fruit per year.
He said that the jatropha fruits would be used as the feedstock for a biodiesel plant to be constructed by the company in Asahan, North Sumatra.
To finance the development of the plantations and the construction of the biodiesel plant, the company plans to raise a syndicated loan from local and foreign banks, he said. (JP/12)
