Siak Regent Writes to BGN Over Widespread Complaints About Rotten MBG Meals
Siak Regent Afni Zulkifli says she has received numerous complaints from parents about the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme during the holy month of Ramadan. She says the complaints include fruit or other food items that are rotten.
‘There are many complaints from parents about the MBG menu in Siak. Some of the items provided were rotten,’ Afni told DetikSumut on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
She said some menus were also not appropriate. Moreover, she noted, there was a menu allocated for three days.
‘There is a menu given for three days and we have repeatedly conveyed this criticism to the BGN. Parents are very concerned,’ Afni said.
Afni said she had sent letters to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) in Jakarta and to the BGN office in Riau. The complaints were also addressed to SPPG regarding MBG delivery times. She said meals were delivered during school hours while PAUD, TK and primary schools (SD) were in session as children were fasting.
‘Principally, I have conveyed all input from parents to BGN today. We are simply requesting tighter supervision, hygienic distribution, transparency, and a complaints mechanism that can be acted on promptly,’ Afni said.
