SIA eyes China Airlines
SINGAPORE (DPA): Singapore Airlines (SIA) is eying a 25-per- cent stake in Taiwan's China Airlines, a news report said Tuesday.
"We consider China Airlines as a good investment," Singapore's Straits Times newspaper quoted SIA chief executive officer Cheong Choong Kong as saying.
SIA was also looking at "a small airline in the Philippines", Cheong said.
"We wanted originally to buy a 10 percent of China Airlines, but now we are thinking of raising this stake to 25 percent in the long term."
Cheong added that Asia's economic crisis, which has not battered Singapore's economy as much as those, had provided opportunities.
