Si Doel Anak Betawi Song Enlivens Jakarta Anniversary Ceremony at Monas

The song ‘Si Doel Anak Betawi’ resounded during the ceremony marking Jakarta’s 499th anniversary at the National Monument (Monas) on Monday (22/6). The tune was performed by a marching band that opened the series of events. The song is closely associated with Rano Karno, who played the role of Doel in the film and now serves as Jakarta’s Deputy Governor. CNNIndonesia.com observed that Rano Karno attended the event alongside Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, both wearing traditional formal Betawi attire. Former Jakarta governors Sutiyoso, acting governor Heru Budi Hartono, and Teguh Setyabudi were also present. As part of the celebrations, the Jakarta provincial government is providing free public transport and access to tourist attractions. Governor Pramono stated that on 22, 27, and 28 June, the free facilities are available to all holders of Indonesian ID cards (KTP), not just Jakarta residents.
