Shuttler allegedly swindled of Rp 400m

JAKARTA (JP): Legendary retired shuttler Rudy Hartono Kurniawan lodged on Monday a complaint with city police, after allegedly being swindled of Rp 400 million (US$57,142), an officer at the city police complaint center said on Tuesday.

Quoting from the police report, the officer who requested anonymity said Rudy had been approached at his home by an individual named Muhmad Damroni. He said Muhmad had offered Rudy a bank guarantee allegedly worth Rp 400 million issued by state Bank BNI.

"Interested in the offer, Rudy handed the man Rp 400 million without checking with the bank, and obtained a fake guarantee in return," the officer said.

"Later when Rudy confirmed (the matter) with Bank BNI, he found out that the bank had not issued any such guarantee in Rudy's name."

When The Jakarta Post tried to confirm the story with Rudy, a maid answered the telephone and said her employer was not at home. (ylt)
