Shrimp Ponds in Kebumen Yield 40 Tonnes per Hectare, Prabowo: Very Promising

Prabowo said the productivity of shrimp ponds in that area is very promising. According to reports he had received, one hectare of ponds can yield up to 40 tonnes of shrimp. ‘So very promising, I have been given a report that one hectare can yield 40 tonnes, unbelievable, 40 tonnes indeed, and the price is very good, the price is Rp 70,000 per kg, meaning Rp 70 million per tonne,’ he said. Prabowo also outlined that the government is expanding shrimp farming and productive fisheries projects in several areas. Currently, the government is developing a shrimp farming area covering 2,000 hectares in Waingapu, East Nusa Tenggara, followed by 200 hectares in Gorontalo. In addition, the government is preparing to develop a fisheries area on the North Coast of West Java, covering up to 14,000 hectares. ‘Such ventures are highly beneficial and productive; how many jobs could be absorbed? About 650 people are employed. We are building 2,000 hectares in Waingapu; here 65 hectares; 200 hectares in Gorontalo; and 14,000 hectares in West Java’s Pantura. Above all, fisheries development will expand across the country, starting now,’ he said. Prabowo stressed that the government will continue to build productive projects in the food and fisheries sectors to meet the population’s protein needs while also boosting the country’s foreign exchange earnings through exports. ‘We will build productive projects that produce protein for our people and to sell abroad so that we can earn foreign exchange,’ he said.
