Shrimp Harvest in Kebumen: Prabowo Says Prices Are Very Good
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto joined in pulling nets during a shrimp harvest in the shrimp ponds area of Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday, 23 May 2026. Footage on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel showed Prabowo closely monitoring the harvest at the pond site. He was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan and Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono. Prabowo then helped pull the nets alongside local shrimp farmers. The nets are used to catch shrimp during the harvest period. “I’ve been told that one hectare can produce 40 tonnes. Incredible, 40 tonnes,” Prabowo said at the site. He also received reports that the shrimp fetch a price of Rp 70,000 per kilogram. This means that one hectare of shrimp ponds could generate around Rp 2.8 billion. Prabowo also noted that the shrimp ponds employ up to 650 local workers. “So this is very good, very productive,” he said. The government is also building 200 hectares of ponds in Gorontalo and 14,000 hectares along the north coast of Java. “There it’s fish, here it’s shrimp,” Prabowo said. He said the harvest was aimed at export markets. The government projects that the harvest could increase foreign exchange earnings. “So that we can obtain foreign exchange,” Prabowo said.
